    Bedroom hammock setup

    Hello!

I've been searching the web for a four-point hammock stand I can use in the bedroom with my wife to replace our bed. Sadly, we've come up empty.

    We found two, both discontinued:

The latter is way too pricey anyway. Not sure how much the first one costs. But it's weird that nobody seems to make these.

Does anyone have any experience with these four-point hammock beds that they can share with us?

Also, does anyone have any experience with the "Floating Bed" (www.floatingbed.com)? That's a possibility for us as well.

We live in the California Bay Area, and would love to actually try out some of these (the four-point, and the floating bed). For the latter, apparently there's a few places in the Los Angeles area that we can go to, to try these out (mainly bed and breakfasts). The former, though, we can't find ANYONE that carries that sort of thing.

The reason we're interested in these two, by the way, is that we often sleep at different times, so it seems to me that a traditional hammock would be kind of disruptive. If anyone has any experiences to the contrary, though, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

If you think $4k is expensive, that second 4-point hammock stand I linked to is like $20k :P

I would assume that two people in any hammock would be constantly pulled by gravity towards each other. That seems like it could get uncomfortable. It would put both people on a slight slope. Everything I've seen about sleeping in a hammock says you'll want to lay diagonally so you can lie mostly flat. Is there any way to get a flat lay with two people in a four corner hammock?

I think the reason they're so expensive is because they're not popular at all. The only two 4-point stand models I could find are both discontinued.

I mean, why can't one just take two traditional 2-point hammock stands (those upside down arc ones like this: http://www.chenjitown.com/wp-content...mmockstand.jpg), and put them perpendicular to each other? So material and manufacturing-wise, they're not a big deal, it seems to me. But they haven't gotten to the critical mass required for economies of scale to kick in.

Or maybe they're just not very comfortable in practice, which is why I'm dying to actually try one out.

Derizen, that's a really good point. That's why I really need to try one out with my wife before committing to anything.

I guess the four-point stands are not that much different from suspending four points from the ceiling, like so:

I've seen those before & they are beautiful.

I bet finding a contractor to build what you want would be cheaper thank 4k

I wouldn't think so and I wouldn't want to be committed to sleeping with two people in one hammock every night, that would be terribly uncomfortable. Probably why they're discontinued and people have their own hammocks. They sure are pretty though.
