I've had a couple of near-misses testing out the underquilt without the tie-outs tied on my Hennessy. Five or six times now, I've sat down far enough back to be on the seam between the netting and the hammock body. You'd think I'd've learned after the first one that this is a bad idea, but noooooooo...

I blame a youth spent throwing myself off of high places with wheels strapped to my feet for keeping me from dumping completely. I sure am glad that I've got reasonable reflexes when it comes to falling.

Nowadays, I make sure to find the seam for the netting with one hand and then find the opposite edge of the hammock with the other before sitting down. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me seven times...

Wondering what will happen if this occurs to a hammock equipped with the soon-to-be-released quilt hooks Dutch has cooked up? Maybe he needs to think about a quick release lever, kind of like ski bindings
    I'm thinking Dutch's Q/H would alleviate the problem by keeping the hammock edge aligned with U/Q .. but.. where's there's a will .. there's a way..

Genuine Draft did this on the side of a hill!

It was behind Overmountain Shelter on the AT. She was getting into the hammock on the uphill side, sat on the Snugfit, and proceeded to do about two somersaults downhill once she hit the ground...right under the tarp and gone! Once I composed myself and asked her if she was OK, I started checking the quilt. Broken shockcord, but that was the worst of it. A quick repair, a few more giggles, and back to sleep we went.
    Trust nobody!

It'll probably happen to me at some point, at least that what karma says. That's because of how hard I laughed at my buddy for doing this while were on Cumberland island. It was his bugnet though. He hit the ground so hard I saw a dust cloud. Almost lost my voice laughing. True story.

I did this just last week! Went back to hammock & crashed on the plywood floor of my shed. Jambed my finger & whacked the back of my head on a shelf. Pitch black. Ouch!
