It would be a good hike but yes I think it would be reasonable to hit the trail early Saturday (might want to drive up Friday evening) and hike in for the night. Not at a spot where I can post a map of the hike but I will tomorrow.

Also anyone coming can PM me for my phone for further directions.

With less than a week it would be helpful to compile a list of those that are coming for sure.

    So far we have:
    Pgibson,
    Jbehun,
    KSC,
    MuseJr,
    Modakai,
    Walking Bear +2

    Rob arriving late Sunday

    Anyone else?

Here is the map as promised of the area for the hike.

The Orange dot on the right (east) is the campground (Alturas lake inlet campground) for Wednesday night. The Blue Dot towards the center is the Trail Head. Follow the brown trail to the west staying to the north of all splits, first one is just a few hundred yards from the trail head. Head north into the valley with the pink circle. Camping will be near one of the lower lakes as they have more options for trees than the higher lakes...Probably closer to the second Orange dot than the dreaded tent.

I found some blaze orange sil flags that one of the crew members made up last winter for another project that I will bring to try and mark camp. Anyone hiking in later just keep an eye out for large...about 3 foot square...Orange flags hung in the trees to mark camp. If we get way off trail to camp then I will add an arrow pointing the direction to head below the flag.

I will also make up a close up map of the hiking area for anyone that wants a printed copy that I can bring to camp and or leave at the trail head with the route marked. Just post or PM and let me know to make up copy for you.

I've got the map printed. Will leave one copy for the wife. Started to gather some of the food for the trip. Need to get to the basement and get the rest of the gear out. We are looking forward to the trip.
We will depart on Tuesday morning.

I'll have to plan to come over for next year's hang. Too late to plan for this year's! Plus, by then I'll be able to get myself a Toxaway!

Hope the fires calm down out your way! Have fun, Paul and crew.

    Weather

I have looked at the weather forecast for Stanley, ID. It show sun with highs in the upper 70's and lows in the lower 30's. Would those numbers be close to what it will be where we will hike to for the hang?

Over all yes those would be the range. Staley is just a few miles north. This time of year though you can anticipate a quick rain shower or two to whip past so a rain jacket is advisable but I rarely pack rain pants. Also it can cool down more in the valley overnight. Snow is not out of the question but will melt as soon as the sun comes up if it were to come down. A spare fleece would not hurt. On the first hang we had a few nights drop to the low twenties. Take a quick browse through the trip reports linked in my first post of this thread for more detail on what we had and anticipate the same or similar.

I'm going to continue my streak of missing group hangs this year. I have received some very unfortunate news this week and if I leave town it will be back to NorCal to help out some family.
Have a great trip. I will look for the trip report.
