    It's a start...

Looking to go lite and possibly "up" after a recent tough 9 miles on three rocky peaks that highlighted my endurance limits to carry. Found this site after a link from black cat tarp project instructions. Dusted off the sewing machine and practiced flat felled seams In scrap nylon to begin this new adventure in making my own gear. I'm a chemist in a company that makes silicones and other textile treatments/chemicals so I appreciate the requirements of advanced materials for this area and have access to some cool goodies. Hopefully some customers work with ultralite fabrics and i can access them.

Welcome to the trees! Always good to get another convert. This place is the best resource for DIY hammock gear, tons of good people who share their ideas.

Make yourself at home and it's never too soon to go to a hang. It's a good place to meet some other hangers and see some different systems.

    Thanks

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm a pay-it-forward kinda guy and hopefully can contribute to the effort in return.

I talked to one of our salesman this morning and we do sell coating chemicals to a company who pressure infuses the nylon ripstop for military parachutes, including personnel type and freight "drop". It's not silicone coating in this case, but a fluoronated coating that lets a certain amount of air through, but is highly water resistant. My goal is to acquire some mill ends and hopefully get enough to be able to give some excess away at a hang out.
