Good job on your first cold solo! I had a similar jan.1 night as you when MY buddy bailed on me, after spending all day packing I was not going to let that affect my night so I just went out on my own. Sounds like we both need better friends or more solo's

It is all the little things that go wrong that make it memorable.

20 years from now you wont remember all the beautiful nights that you slept soundly. You will remember the night that your buddy had to leave early, you were cold all night, and then you woke up to snow and a dead car battery!

    Cheers!

Thanks all for the kind words! It was a fun trip overall. For those who asked we were at Eastfork State Park just east of Cincinnati.

Nice report, I think almost all of us have heard that sound of no sound from a vehicle when we were really ready to go, but those are the things that make us appreciate when all is smooth. I really admire your using what you have and making it work, and for being a friend and carrying ur friends stuff out, because of his back, then staying the course for solo, Shug has it nailed, you got moxie.

You need to tell Zach (ok, his new trail name is Twinge) that if he had a hammock, his back would be ok.

What does he weigh? I think I have enough 1.7 laying around to make him a SL hammock... I am pretty sure I have enough mule tape to add suspension to it, too... 1.7SL is good to around 250-275lbs, 1.7DL 400lbs... ish...

I'll PIF it to you if it gets the poor man off the ground. Just give me a few weeks to get it sewn up... PM Me if interested.

This is an especially enjoyable report, including the chuckle. I think you would make an excellent and dependable camp mate! I do most of my hanging solo because finding anyone smart (crazy?) enough to enjoy hanging in the refreshingly chilly weather is difficult to impossible in my local area. I expect we will get to enjoy hearing more of your adventures in the future.

Great report. Sometimes the unexpected things are what make trips so great! And now you have a great story to tell about your first solo.
