The Alps pad and the surplus military are similar, but the military is wider at 24 inches. I second the observation on the Alps as it is more flexible and does not seem to sweat as much.
Instead of an SPE, you can also try hinged duct tape joints to hang on some wings and protect your shoulders. It is worth a try until you figure out the financing for a UQ
I have both the reflectix and a gossamer gear 40" 1/4 pad. I cut the gossamer gear pad down to better fit how I lay in the hammock. I may need to make a couple of darts in it. It cups up around you, which is nice. It has been warmer since I got it, not below 55 or so, but I know it will go lower. I like the reflectix too. I took some reflectix tape and made a T shape and it took me down to 47. It started warming up so haven't been able to test it lower. The reflectix shapes around you too, but you kind of crackle when you move. Both are bulky but light-weight. I'm still playing with both.
I have been looking into getting a new pad. I have yet to venture into underquilts, a little out of my price range at the moment.
I have been debating between the Therm-a-rest Ridgerest SOlite, and the Z-lite, anyone with any experiences with these?
The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.
I have used the Z-lite in the past with my WBBB 1.1 DL. It works well placed between the layers and will keep you warm. In cooler weather, you may find it is a little narrow by itself and your shoulders may get cold.
