Wierd.... My ropes don't go through the hook like that. How can you thread the hook through the casing when it is threaded like that? You'd have to untie the loop every time. I haven't had my ATHH under hammock stress yet. maybe I'll go see if I can get some pics of my loop.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

That my ATHH rope loop. I have been worried about the end of the hook damaging the rope under tension. But as I say I haven't hung it that way yet.

I haven't used it for anything other than a hammock so far, and this happened after about 2 hrs. of hanging it up in about 4 different places. I imagine it is possible that an overnighter could result in a failure. Of course, then you could join the club!
Thanks I've already had my failure. I think I'll pass on any more. What about the loop though? might that attachment be better or maybe worse or is it a crap shoot either way?

I have heard of the ropes breaking on this brand of hammocks before. Here's one:
--from this thread:http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/g...l-hammock.html
Add to that mine on both sides, and Dutch on his ATHH. But to be fair, I did a search and these are the only three examples so far I saw. However, to be safe, it is proabably wise to replace them with something you know will hold. Or have a crash pad and see how many bounces it takes to get to the center of the rope! One...two...three.....<Pop!! Crash!!>...three!
I set mine up and the rope is showing a slight bit of fray around the hook loops. I probably would not notice it if someone had not pointed it out. I would not be worried about atm but I will be watching it carefully.

I slept on night in mine already, and no sign of wear. I'm about 190 so I'm no light load. RamblinRev, my hooks attach to the hammock like yours do. Do the ones that began to fail look like Narwhalin's?
God Bless,
Kyle

I am pushing the limits of the rating for the ATHH. In fact depending what I ate for dinner and when I last... well.. never mind... I might even be slightly over. The rope in mine is showing some fray. I would still have faith in it at this point but you better believe I'll check it every time I go near the thing.
