When I joined WhiteBlaze.net, there was already a Patrick (Patrick McKenna, creator of Kick *** Quilts fame). Since I live in North Carolina, it seemed simple enough to differentiate between us. When we hammockers reached a critical mass on WhiteBlaze and HammockForums sprang into being, I simply signed up with the same id to avoid confusion. I hardly ever visit WB anymore... but I'm sure I will again at some point.

I'll confirm that ... this is one great lady! Sharing a camp, trail or chat with her and you'll understand the name!

Bruce Springsteen is one of my favourite artists, Born to run a great song (live!).

I can't seem tone stuck in one place, drifting, wandering around the world from 2003 to the end of 2005 and more and more, so roaming it became..... born2roam .....

Very endearing to hear where each name had it's origin. I hope to hear from a bunch of others. This is an interesting read!
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

Hiking in the Kentucky Piney woods (Shewtowee Trace), I like putting salted peanuts into a bottle of Ale-8 (Shug would approve).... was with a couple folk, and I was trying to get the last peanut out of the empty bottle, but it was glued to the inside neck wall. Stuck my tongue in the bottle and was trying to fish it out, the other guys had a hoot about it, and I got tagged with my trail name.
.... the Aardvark (earth pig)... a rather unremarkable creature whose sole claim to fame is that it is the first animal listed in the dictionary.

tl:dr Hetairoi - drinking buddy with large gear collection

    ***

long, long ago when the internet was just beginning, I needed a screenname. I happened to be reading a biography of Alexander the Great, flipped through to a random page and saw the word "Hetairoi", good enough.

Turns out, the name has many meanings. In ancient Macedonia each tribe had a chief and each chief had a representative he would send out to meet with other tribal reps. This group would meet and "compromise" on issues of the day. They usually accomplished this by drinking heavily. Over time, as things grew and the chiefs became Kings, this group of advisers was known as the Hetairoi, or the Kings drinking buddies

During the time of Alexander the Great, the Hetairoi were known as 'the Kings companions' and became the cavalry that protected him. They had the best training, the best horses and best equipment.

If you know me then you are starting to see how this random name choice and my connections to HammockForums is quite relevant.

If you don't know me, then I look forward to the day we meet so we can have a drink and talk about gear

I also have dozens of other nicknames, I seem to collect them easily

mbcruzin is just a YouTube name I created a few years ago. I had moved to the Myrtle Beach area and got a job as a copier technician. Since then I've been cruzin around MB doing my job. I hope that I'll get a trail name one of these years and then i'll change my screen name.
Life looks better from a BIAS hammock.

Just changed mine; it fits better now. It's part of my last name, and I'm a herpetologist who used to research frogs (and still does occasionally).
