Somewhat unrelated, I have a bunch of paracord. I find the Amsteel too slippery to maintain a prusik hold when it's tied with paracord. Anyone else note this before?

You may want to try the Klemheist Knot. You use the same loop as you would a prusik. It's just tied different and holds better on the slippery stuff. I have a Zing-it ridge line with Zing-it Klemheist knots. I have not used it in the "real world", but with the tarp hanging and try to slide the Klemheist, it does hold better.

with the loop that I had I only had cord enough for three wraps and that was just a quickie set up and break down, a trial run kind of thing. Would an extra wrap help it hold? I find that more than four it becomes too cumbersome to manage and dress properly. I'll have to experiment some more I guess. I'll get a chance to set everything up this weekend I bet.
Interesting read on Roadrunnr's link; "These knots must be made using a rope smaller than the load bearing rope, e.g., 5 or 6 mm cord around the climbing rope. The effectiveness of these knots diminishes as the sizes of the two ropes approach each other." A 1/8" or 7/64" Amsteel is pretty close to the same diameter as the Paracord prusik loop. I have some Mason's twine, I'll try some of that.
The reason I asked was because I was doing some reading on another thread and I read that allot of guys when they use zing it or other slippery chordage have to use like 5 wraps to get a good hold on the prusik when dealing with slippery chordage. I am very new but this is just what I read on another thread. I would try 4 wraps then 5 and see if it holds ok. Let us know how it goes as I am interested to hear. Thanks

It really depends on what you're using it for. If you're making a prusik for your pillow on your hammock ridgeline, it's barely holding any weight and almost anything will do. If you're using prusiks for your tarp ridgeline you might want to go with something with a little more strength.
Speer no tangle line is awesome for prusiks and won't tangle into a knot instantly like the ACE kite line.
