Is Sil downproof?
Also would it be good for the outside of a winter topquilt or under quilt?

If the fabric was calandered before the sil- impregnation then i guess you could use it. With the few tests ive done sil seemed to hold the down in fairly well. Make sure you use a more breathable fabric for your inner shell.
If your going to use Sil on the outer side of a winter UQ, you better be using a vapor barrier between you and the inner inside of the UQ. You will have condensation issues if you don't. On multinight trips when temps are below 35°, the condensation will collect in the UQ. With that said, some use the Sil on the inner side of the UQ as a vapor barrier to minimize this issue.

Ok thanks for clearing that up, so i could use sil for my down quilts but had should make sure to use it on both sides of the quilt as to not catch vapor inside the down.
I could use a layer of insultex as the inner shell, or with some ripstop over it so im not rubbing all on the IX, which would act as a vapor barrier and increase the insulation value a tad bit.
