    Gutterman Thread spool size

Is the spool the Guttermann thread that DIY Gear Supply sales like a normal sized spool? My fabric impaler only has the holder for what looks to be around 3/16" rod that is vertical to hold the thread. Any help greatly appreciated.
Btw I tried the Search function for this and didnt find anything.

I believe so. The spool I bought from them that fit my mom's Bernina machine without a problem, and I don't think she has anything special. If your machine fits a normal spool that you get from a fabric store, it should fit the Gutermann thread spool.

The one I got was not normal sized. What I did was take an empty spool and slice one end off at an angle to the spool creating a cone out of the spars that are inside the plastic spool. Then I hot-glued that into the Gutterman's spool.

I have a lathe so if I need to make an adapter I can. Was curious because the spools on the pictures look bigger to me.

I've never used one of those cones, I want to get one someday. But if it doesn't fit on your machine, you can make a stand.

It should fit any home sewing machine. Got a spool of Gutermann Tera from them last week and it fits in my Brother BM-2600.

I like making stuff so if I need to make a stand like that one it just adds to the fun. Thanks for the replies.

I bought a spool like that from the local fabric store and was not sure how it would work on my Viking. It works, it just sits a little funny and it clunks around but it works.

+1 to the above. I can't imagine the spool hole being smaller than whatever pike you have on top of your fabric impaler. The thread isn't going to be flying off the spool, so even if it's a good bit bigger than the spindle, it's no problem. My grandmother puts a small piece of felt over the spindle to dampen the spool's movement, and keep the finish from wearing. It works well.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
