I grew up in MN and I love it. I just grew up in the northeast where all the lakes are...now I am out where the food is made. It's a tough adjustment!
I have done a few big chunks of the SHT when I visited home in the summers (ah, being a teacher), but that is too far for an average weekend trip during the school year. I did some short hikes in Itasca SP and think that will provide some options.
