I would be happy to explore anywhere, been in ga 5 years now and have only been to a handful of state parks car camping....just got into backpacking and looking to explore

When life gets you down......make an underquilt!
I've been to Panther Creek numerous times and it is a great place they have campsite's at the begining of the trail apporx. .8 miles in and you can also camp at the falls which is 3.5 miles in and nothing to severe as far as inclines go.
Panther Creek is definitely excellent.
I wish I could go on those dates but I'm moving out of my apartment that weekend to prep for my thru-hike of the AT.
I'm likin' Panther Creek. Still don't know if I can go the 17th (I think not), but I'll keep checking back. Hemlock Falls trail at Moccasin Creek sounds very similar to how you've described Panther Creek.
As for the AT, there's not much to the sites that are large enough for a group and also have water. However, there are sites on the trail interior where its a short hike to a nice view. Woods Hole shelter has a large area to hang in and is close to Blood Mt. (and Neels as one suggested). Baggs Creek Gap is close to Cowrock and Wolf Laurel Top. Deep Gap shelter is close to Kelly Knob which has decent views this time of year. Probably the best place might be Whitley Gap shelter which has great views on the way, and another 1.1m trail the other way to another bald view.
Can't remember exactly, but I think Long Creek Falls would have enough space. Just thoughts.

Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.
Pursuing it with eager feet
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

Well, I'm definitely out for the 17th, but I'll keep checking to see if the date gets pushed out. Whether it does or not, we'll have to have another one in May/June.
I'm also out for the 17th, already booked leading a group that weekend.
I'll keep an eye on the thread anyway, JIK

I figured that a voting poll would be the best way to fairly decide dates and locations, so I started this thread (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=46422). Let's move the planning and discussions over there and get this thing kicked off!
