I've been to Panther Creek numerous times and it is a great place they have campsite's at the begining of the trail apporx. .8 miles in and you can also camp at the falls which is 3.5 miles in and nothing to severe as far as inclines go.

    Panther Creek is definitely excellent.

I wish I could go on those dates but I'm moving out of my apartment that weekend to prep for my thru-hike of the AT.

I'm likin' Panther Creek. Still don't know if I can go the 17th (I think not), but I'll keep checking back. Hemlock Falls trail at Moccasin Creek sounds very similar to how you've described Panther Creek.

As for the AT, there's not much to the sites that are large enough for a group and also have water. However, there are sites on the trail interior where its a short hike to a nice view. Woods Hole shelter has a large area to hang in and is close to Blood Mt. (and Neels as one suggested). Baggs Creek Gap is close to Cowrock and Wolf Laurel Top. Deep Gap shelter is close to Kelly Knob which has decent views this time of year. Probably the best place might be Whitley Gap shelter which has great views on the way, and another 1.1m trail the other way to another bald view.

Can't remember exactly, but I think Long Creek Falls would have enough space. Just thoughts.

Your forgot about Three Forks, plenty of hang space there.

    2. Panther Creek; another nomination for location with easy access, waterfalls, and possibly some fishing.
    3. Anywhere along the AT; I would prefer somewhere close to Neels Gap so I can stop by a local store that sells ULA equipment and take a look at the Circuit (considering upgrading to one).
    4. The Chattoga River; always a great location with plenty of great hiking, fishing, some nearby waterfalls, and plenty of hanging sites.

Vote now or throw in another nomination!
Ok, so far that's 3 votes for Panther Creek and 2 votes for the AT. Those were my top two choices as well, so I'm good either way. Let's keep the voting going.

Well, I'm definitely out for the 17th, but I'll keep checking to see if the date gets pushed out. Whether it does or not, we'll have to have another one in May/June.

I'm also out for the 17th, already booked leading a group that weekend.

I'll keep an eye on the thread anyway, JIK

I figured that a voting poll would be the best way to fairly decide dates and locations, so I started this thread (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=46422). Let's move the planning and discussions over there and get this thing kicked off!

I'd probably be up for it if y'all don't mind having a dog around. Chattooga river is my favorite for the fishing but anywhere is fine. Also to the guy in loganville who said hed need a ride im close enough
