    Hello from North Jersey!

    Hi all.

New to the forum. I have a Hennessy Explorer Deluxe ASYM Classic that I won in a contest. I've only taken it with me once out into the bush, and now I'm sold on it. Best 3 nights of sleep I've had in ages. I want to get into this more, and am looking for the best methods of setup and deployment. I've seen some of McSparron's stuff on youtube, but I was wondering if anyone else had any other ideas/advice/experience with this. Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome from way down in Central Jersey! Come check out the winter hang in the Pines in two weeks if you can. Good times, good people, and lots of good ideas/advice/experience to tap.

Welcome from the Jersey Shore. The Hennessy was my first hammock too and it's a great starter hammock. Some folks get rid of the stock suspension and replace with whoopie slings and some people add a side zipper entrance because they find the bottom entry claustrophobic. There's tons of info about hammocks in general and Hennessy hammocks specifically on this forum.

As Dylan said, you should really try to attend a group hang and the 5th Annual NJ Winter Hang is coming up. It's 1/27 to 1/29 at Batona Camp in the Pine Barrens. Here's the thread with more info:

    Welcome again!

Welcome neighbor. If you want to get together sometime, I'd be happy to share what I've learned in my time here on the forum. Just drop me a PM.

Welcome from Ohio, and Semper Fi!

I agree with the others, start with Shug's videos. Very informative, and very entertaining. His delivery in them is not overwhelming, and definitely not boring. If you can, get out to a group hang. I haven't met a bad person yet at one, and everyone is always willing to help another in need. Must be something about the hammock "culture". I was ALWAYS a solo hiker prior to my first group hang, now about 75% of my trips are with other hangers.

If you're going to a winter hang make sure you read up on insulation...a hammock is different than a tent, when it comes to what's underneath you, but a foam pad will keep you warm either way. I started with a pad. It's cheap, light, and warm, just not the most comfortable way to sleep.

I've had the pleasure of hanging with Knotty at Dolly Sods. The man knows his stuff, and I'm sure can give you a few pointers about making your own gear in addition to general questions.

Welcome from Central Jersey. As Dylan and Silvr mentioned, the winter hang down in the Pine Barrens is a great opportunity to learn a lot in a short amount of time. It was my first group hang and my learning curve shortened dramatically. Knotty is very knowledgeable and seems to be not too far away so if you get a chance, it's always nice to hang with someone who has done this before. Check out Shug's videos and spend a little time searching these forums for the information you seek. More often than not, you'll find a ton of information but don't hesitate to post questions as this community is always ready to help.
