hanging with a broken clavicle
Would it be a wise way to sleep considering the compression it may have on the shoulders? what is the best method to reduce that compression with a gathered end hammock? have of you out the hung with a large broken bone?

Wise only if you don't move while sleeping which will be the case in conventional bed also. Your body will tell you how NOT to be so try starting out in a 45* angle on left shoulder. You will prolly find the hammock gives nice support to your back right shoulder. Getting in and out is going to be the hard part. If you have somewhere to hang a line you can grab with your left hand to lower down/pull up it will help. Hold your left forearm against your chest and heave ho outa the hammock. Ifn you are a youngun, you prolly have the abd muscles to do OK.
I had back surgery last fall (muscular tissue only) and the only comfy place to sleep was in the back yard! Getting in and out tho was a bear

I imagine you would be fine. Are they wanting to fix it? I'm in Ortho, and in my lowly opinion, it doesn't look too bad. I'm sure it hurts like crazy or is at least sore as all get out.

If you lay on the diagonal, the shoulder on the same side of the hammock as the low fabric gets very little compression. I broke a clavicle many moons before I started hanging, but thinking back about the sensations, I wouldn't want that side against the high wall of fabric because it tends to lift and push your shoulder, which is not going to be pleasant on your clavicle.

what if you lay face down? a figure eight brace is often used for a broken clavicle and this could simulate that pressure, pushing the shoulders back. it may even feel kind of nice. and ps im not a doctor so take this as a thought as best, not medical advice
yeah i choose a sling over surgery seems to be healing well. Also ditto what you said too Millarky XD
The ideas are all awesome, been getting the itch to go hang but i think set up and take down will be just a bit difficult with the "stuff" method of stowage with the ENO.
I broke my clavicle a few years ago in a motorcycle accident [along with shattering my wrist]. I was a hanger back then, but a casual one. No fancy camping hammocks. I like millarky's ideas of a support rope and think the only way your going to know if you can hang like that is to try. I'll tell you this though ... I ended up sleeping two moths in the living room recliner because it was the only place I could sleep the night. I could not get comfortable being horizontal with my collar bone broken.
So ... final advice ... try it. Especially try it while you still have some Oxy left and can pop a pill if it's the wrong place to sleep

I haven't tried it yet but my back hurts so bad from sleeping perfectly still on my back in bed (somehow i do not move in my sleep) its had me thinking of an attempt. Its been 10 days since the break and woven bone has just started to form so it is too soon nowOh noooo...would not even consider it.
I've had two and just the thought of any sleeping platform that moves (or has side walls) gives the shivers.
I guess it all depends on pain tolerance. I would go crazy sleeping on my back for the entire recovery period and would be seeking alternatives quickly, like you.
