Good to know DetailMan. Thanks for the info. Any thought on using it for an STL with shock cord? Im not looking to use it for a whole ridgeline but thought it might be nice for these.

I have a Kelty Noah 9. This tarp hangs in a diamond. I have the guy lines that came with it on the ridge and the two main side tie downs. Then I have mason line whoopies on the ends to close it up really tight. I'll see if I can put it up this weekend and get some pics. Ohhhhh I may have a pic already, I'll have to do some checking.

Back in August at the John Rock Hang in WNC I had a bad, wet experience with it in a thunderstorm. The rain came down so fast and heavy, it stretched the mason line ridgeline and the tarp sagged enough to end up getting my whole rig wet. Lash-it for me from now on.

In that case I won't continue with my silly experiment

Braided nylon mason line has a BS of ca. 150 to 170 lb, so should be adequate for guy lines and probably ridgelines in many cases.

Where did you get that mason line? I just broke a piece of what I have, and it took way less force to break it. Around 50 lbs or so.

Also thanks for tipping me off! this stuff is nice.

Yes, go to a kite supplier for braided Dacron(tm) = polyester line. Per weight it is 30-50% the strength of dyneema /spectra. It doesn't stretch and doesn't absorb water.

We could go on and on about minimal UV resistance, probably not included in 150lb test line available for $.025 /ft = $.08 / meter.

    eg: http://www.goodwinds.com/merch/list.....braideddacron

"Mason's line" could be about anything, the reason there are different reports about it. Let's wake up to the fact that it is not made to be load-bearing. That it might bear any weight is incidental to its use in construction.
