In this episode we talk with Sarah Svien, the author of "Freezer Bag Cooking: Trail Food Made Simple". Sarah has developed a great alternative to 'store bought' dehydrated trail meals.

As a fun project, my 8 year old son (trail name Shaky Jake) and I bought a food dehydrator off Amazon and followed the instructions on the freezer bag cooking website to make spaghetti with red sauce. Worked well but the meat ended up a bit tough. I must say it is a lot lighter using dehydrated food. And the meal tasted just like home!

We also used her Fauxbaker idea, which worked like a charm for fresh, hot biscuits and blueberry muffins.

    Ingredients . . about $5
    Food Dehydrator . . . $39
Fresh biscuits with jam while on an overnight hang with my kid . . . . wait for it . . . . PRICELESS!!!

    hey javaman,
Does your dehydrator have variable heat settings? I've always heard that this is important.
