I have the Explorer UL and its my favorite Hammock.
Doesn't have the shelf but I tend to sleep better in it.

My first hammock was an Explorer Deluxe. It's well made and comfortable. At 275# I think you'll appreciate how secure you'll feel in the fabric its made from.

Just picked one up from a member here. Haven't really got it out yet but I know it'll have more room than my Expedition and so I'm looking forward to it!

I think you're going to be VERY pleased with your purchase. I've had the HH Explorer Deluxe (bottom entry) for the last year or so, and have found it's VERY comfortable. I sleep far, far better in it than I have on the ground for sure.

Don't have any experience with the side-zip yet...but just sent mine off for a 2QZQ mod #4 this week. I'm very excited to see how this improvement will work for me. I did keep the bottom entry intact rather than have it sewed up...I like the versatility of having both options.

My 1st hammock was an Explorer UL, and I am still a happy camper with it though I have other hammocks I like just as much or better. But, the differences in comfort are not huge. The main reason it remains one of my top choices is because sometimes I get a hankering to use my HH Super Shelter, and they are designed for each other. I have found that I can fit that HHSS #2 on my WB Blackbird just fine, though I have never actually tried that combo in the cold, and I would want to add some small mods if I did.

There are some things I prefer about the WBBB and some things I prefer about the HH UL Explorer. Plus, if I have a hands down favorite it is probably my JRB bridge used with the JRB MW UQs. But even there, the choice is not easy- pros and cons. Still, the Explorer ( UL version anyway) is just fine.
