Picked up a Grand Trunk Ultralight

    Amazon Prime: $16.12 delivered

I am a Hennessey hanger when backpacking, but I have this idea that I can throw this little hammock in my day pack and when I'm out on a hike, I can take a break, pop out the GTUL and have a nice chair and/or snooze.

The price was certainly right- didn't order any straps or anything... I guess I'll probably make some whoopie slings for it to keep the weight down. Any other tips for using this as a casual day hammock?

Sling it up, kick back and enjoy! I've been trying mine as an underquilt holder under a DIY and it surprised me how nice that works with just a bed quilt. A WalMart blue pad under the quilt holds the shape better.

Another post here mentioned using it as a gear shelf under their hammock as well.

Well worth the minimal investment for me.

Got the same one myself ... re-tied the end gathers, added Arrowhead Equipment's clinch buckles, and light weight camo straps (8 feet) and plop that bad boy in my day pack every trip now. Got mine for a few dollars less last fall from Amazon.

First trip out my wife stole it from me when we took a break!

i retied my gathered ends with some amsteel, got rid of the monster S hooks, slapped on some whoopies and tree straps. I am also playing with an adjustable ridge line for it. For me it seems more comfy with the ridge line. I have slept in it overnight a couple of times fairly comfortably, but there is NO EXCUSE to NOT have one on a day hike

I agree... Now I can go for a dayhike, take a break and make some tea with my alcohol stove and kick back in my GTUL!

I leave the GTUL in my pack all the time for sitting or napping. Haven't used it for an overnighter yet

I recently whipped mine in a sort of warbonnet style and the lay turned from good to great.
