Hammock Forums Book of World Records

Recently I was reading through a old thread about whether or not the -27F has been been broken got me to thinking what other hammock records there might be and I thought, "That might make a neat forum". I'm sure that it would have to be user devoted because it would be much to much to expect the mods to do it all.

I think some interesting categories for hangs might be; warmest, coldest, longest stretch of days outdoors sleeping outdoors in a hammock out doors, furthest north or south, highest elevation, highest winds slept in, lightest setup, most rain, etc...

Even though those would be interesting, I think a list of firsts would even be more interesting. Like first; UQ, whoopie sling used on a hammock, structural ridge-line, etc...

What do the rest of ya'll think?

And how about mostest (coldest) with the leastest. I'm thinking here- as one example- of Cannibal's minus 26F(?) with only a zero rated Winter Yeti and leg pad? Or, who was it recently did minus 10 or 20 with just a pad?

Any way, whatever it is: Mostest with the leastest!

I would like to nominate myself for making the fastest noob purchase of a crappy hammock.

But it was a crappy hammock with a good tarp and I got both for under $30, so I might be disqualified.

    Lowest elavation

I would like to nominate for the lowest hang. I camped in the north west part of Noord Flevoland (the Netherlands) which is 4,5 m (15’) below sealevel. This can can easely be beaten because there are lower spots in The Netherlands, but these are not at all atractive for camping.

I shudder to think about what could happen if unprepared folks start trying stuff so they can have a 'record'.

I'm not a fan of records. They tend to bring out people's inner stupid when ego holds sway over reason. I admit to finding sources like Guinness terribly amusing, but I've seen more than one person hurt badly trying to set a record. I imagine bad things happening for someone trying to set the 'highest off the ground', or 'coldest ambient temp' hangs.

Let's just hang and tell stories.

As to the coldest hang, didn't turk do some stuff up in the Northland that saw -40s and -50s with the windchill? I think he was testing JRBs original hammock hut. Course, he did have a wood burning stove inside the tarp, so maybe not.
    Trust nobody!
