    Help me understand

    Eh all...

Being new to hanging here I have been reading allot and in one post this fella had the HH tree huggers and didn't like them and another person told him to try the Strapworks...

I looked at the strapworks and they look the same as the huggers to me...maybe smaller in size a little.

I don't understand the difference between the two...besides maybe length...

    Thanks

    Mike

Have a look at this thread. In it I explained how I go about modding a HH for a cinch buckle w/webbing suspension. It might clear things up for you a bit. If not, post back here and I'll try to answer whatever specific questions you have.

Definitely read what AS linked above. Strapworks is just a company that sells the webbing used to make your own, better, suspension system vs. the HH tree huggers.

I have a Hennessey Hammock, and made the switch to straps this spring. I have two 12-foot Strapworks 1-inch webbing straps with a 3-inch loop sewn in one end. (Buy a single 30-foot strap with a loop at both ends and cut in half. Cheaper.) I use the JRB Tri-Glides and a couple of carabiners. I have removed (cut off) the stock rope from the hammock. I hang my tarp (fly) separately from the tree.

Advantages: Very quick set up with no knots or lashings. Easy to center, easy to tighten and loosen. Tri-glides hold very well.

    Disadvantages: heavier.

It is cheaper, very very slightly. Disadvantage- With only one sewn loop per end, you have no backup if something happened to the loop stitching (ripping, abrasion, whatever).

Every hammock owner should know a few good knots just for these emergency needs that AS mentioned.

Thanks for the kindness in answering guys...

I read that thread and a couple of others dealing with the rings. I chose to put the rings on my HH Safari because in all honesty I had the rings and didn't want to wait for the cinch clips...I see how your hooking everything together but my huggers have a loop at both ends just like the strapworks if you will but mine are 2" not 1" wide.

So the difference is in what your wanting to do with the straps that make them different? Or am I being think headed here...

The difference between the straps and tree huggers is typically the length. With huggers, they are usually only long enough to go around the tree, and you use rope from the hammock end to the huggers where you tie a knot. With the straps, you use webbing all the way around the tree, and still extending to either the rings or buckles near the end of the hammock.
