    More props to cuben!

Well, this is officially the second bad weather test for my tarp. Over 4 inches of snow fell on us last night and with all that weight i thought there was going to be at least some damage, but to my suprise. nothing. and with those 40 mph winds last month. nothing as well. I have belief cuben may be here for the long haul. I guess i just had some concerns about the .51. Not anymore.

Nice I have been on the fence with the cost and newness of cuben. I like to see the reports, but still wonder about it. I am still going to hold off until I see more reports, maybe a few with several inches of snow and high winds at the same time!!!

Same here, but I always have been thinking about it in time. So far I have no problems with my BMJ. Not had the snow but I live in Kansas, so the winds do pick up. I have been in gusts as high as 55mph and steady 35mph winds all night long two nights last week, no damage at all. I think sil might be almost as good as cuban but heavier. If there are any more good thoughts about cuban I may look at it as an upgrade a few years from now
Eagels may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked through jet engines!!

I dont see how it is almost as good as cuben, in my mind cuben has to prove it is as good as sil nylon, to me weight is not everything, as it is cuben is noisy compared to sil, but its also lighter, and way more expensive. just my thoughts so far. My Pros and cons are my own.YMMV

my biggest concern about cuben is the way a couple of members have easily poked holes in it with the cuben tarp being hung tightly. The plus to that being able to repair so easily in the field with nothing more than duc tape. I still figure the weight savings is worth the money so eventually after buying alot more gear for me and the wife to cut weight down, I will buy 1 cuben tarp this year.

I'll agree with that. You can deffinatly poke a hole in it pretty **** easy.

Thats what gives me the biggest reservations about buying one. One of my hiking buddies just bought one, so I will see what I think of his after a few trips.

can't wait to see my 'new to me' OES cuben.

still waffling between the .74 and .51 stuff.
    well, & the cost.

i dunno... but i've gotta see it for myself. its one of those things where
you can get a ton of coverage for little weight... but when i'm really concerned with weight is in the milder months equalling high miles. i've had success with the maccat micro in sil, and imagine that would hold up to what i see.

but not to drift...... thanks for the cuben report, esp. in snow! these reports will help to solidify cuben's place on the market.
