Assistant Scoutmaster for a Troop in Charlotte NC. Have a HH Exped. Have camped comfortably down into the mid-20s on my first two hammock outings. The first time all insulation was inside, and for one hair raising moment I found myself upside down half in the bug mesh trying to layer up. Reflectix in a fleece bag in the 20F Big Agnes pad pocket+me in silk sack+flannel sack. Good thing I didn't need to take a leak once I finally got settled. Too much stuff inside the coffin to be truly comfortable or workable.
Second night was last weekend with a HH super shelter + reflectix above the foam pad, Big Ag with nothing in the pocket, though I still crawled into a silk sack+flannel sack. High winds with a weather change and ice fell at one point. Perfectly comfortable. I only awoke to see if I was cold. Heard something sniffing/snuffling outside of the hammock. Figured it was a scout, made a bunch of noises and drifted back to sleep with no chomping.
Lucked into a down blanket at Ikea As-Is today, so going to be doing some sewing soon to make some item that will allow me to push more insulation outside the hammock.
Great site as it had provided enough info to have two enjoyable experiences so far. Got the gear to make OldDog's tripod adaptation to the TurtleLady Tripod hammock stand. Great item for scouting outings without trees or State Parks. Hope to have it done this weekend.
Thanks for all your help so far, and I hope to incrementally add to the site knowledge in time.
