    UQ question

Need to order material for an underquilt. I was wondering, for the fabric, do I need DWR??, downproof, calendared, or all of the above?

What kind of UQ are you going to make? Down? IX? Synthetic? If you go with downproof you should have no issues with whatever you chose, but you do have a few options.

Calendering (passing the fabric through rollers at high heat) makes the fabric downproof, so generally the terms calendered and downproof are used interchangeably. In terms of DWR, standing for Duarable Water Repellent which is a coating added to fabric - this is an added bonus for UQ's as it will reduce the effects of any water splashed on the UQ. DWR is by no means necessary, but I would say calendered/downproof fabric is necessary for a down UQ - or you will lose a lot of down through the fabric.

One thing I would add is that you should make sure that the calendered (or shiny) side of the fabric is on the inside of your UQ - the calendered finish is ruined easily and will erode more if it is on the outside of the UQ.
