    Danish Taco...

    Hey Hammock Forum

My name is Helmer, I am 25 and from Fionia (Fyn), Denmark.

I am new to the hammock thing, but have been camping every summer (most spring and fall seasons aswell) since I was 8 years old. Done winter camping 4 times, the liking of that started when I was a Private in the army.. It's been shelter and tent camping mainly, and open sky camping the 2 years i served the royal danish infantry.

The last few years I have been anoyed with the limited wild camping sites in Denmark, for tents. And that's where hammock camping came into my life

Hoping to learn a lot from this forum (allready has from all of the youtube videos posted by guys from this site), and gain a lot of basic knowledge about tarps, string etc...

At the moment I am in a bit of a dilemma, cause I have to choose my first hammock, and I am torn between the relatively minimal selection on danish sites, Or ordering the full lot from WB.. (wich is alot more money than I initially thought I would be spending)..

Anyway, I am glad to have found a forum with so many enthusiasts and experts..

    Cheerio all

Welcome Helmer! The Warbonnet Blackbird is the way to go in my humble opinion. But you're right, with import fees and taxes, its very expensive to get one outside of the US. Maybe its time for a holiday to the US?

Welcome Helmer, and I wish you luck with your first hammock selection. The WBBB is a sweet set up, but keep your eyes open, you may find something else and not have to pay all the import costs. Good luck.

By the way, how much does shipping cost if an HF member sent you something? Just curious.

    Hi & Welcome!

If you are looking at cheaper options closer to home i can recommend
that you check out DD Hammocks if you havent seen their hammocks already?

I bought a Frontline as my first hammock last summer and im very pleased with it
(everything except the suspension, upgraded to whoopie slings a while ago).

They are shipped from the UK so NO vat n taxes and so forth, just a small
    shipping fee

Shipping from WB is 35$ and last time a friend send me a box (about the size of what I would be ordering from WB).. It cost them 34$... So direct shipping would be the same.....

Thing is, I found a setup in a danish webshop, for 100$... Tarp and hammock, it's too cheap to be any good in my oppinion.. But it's either that or 300$ from US... I am still considering my options. I have a few months till Season really starts for me..

(But getting it early to start fiddling with it would be amazing)

    Welcome Helmer,

Warbonnet Hammocks announced in November that they were partnering with a European distributor. It should be a whole lot cheaper to get Warbonnet products now in Europe.

    Announcement:

    Distributor/Vendor:

I am having a hard time figuring out what comes with these hammocks and not.. That's not just ukhammocks or wb sites, it's all the sites... I have been reading a lot, and watching a ****load of videos... But the amount of cords and strings needed for various setups is a tiny bit confusing sometimes......

Learning by doing might be the way to go... As pretty much anything else on this planet

Welcome to the wild and crazy world of hammocks! Just a word of warning---this stuff is really addicting, and also, the forum is so full of information, its really easy to get overwhelmed (at least for me!) So, take it slow ! Have you picked up a copy of "the ultimate hang" ? ---Excellent book--I think it gives a great overview of hammock camping ---I found it very helpful! Have fun!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
