My deal is storage: when my gear is cleaned and put away after a trip (which are too few and far between), I need it to take up as little space as possible, and I want it as low maintenance as possible. I store my synthetics stuffed, lightly compressed, and have had no issues whatsoever. I don't want to make room to hang down items uncompressed.
Lazy? Probably. But for three-season camping, my sleep system is light enough and small enough and comfortable for me.
