Lost Biker, you mentioned a pocket for insulation, where and how large? Dynamite idea!

Old4hats , Thats what I'm making right now. I finished an IX quilt and I'm putting 2 "pockets" on the bottom two ends of the Ted sock. I know thats not real descriptive, but I'll post some pictures tomorrow when I'm done. I decided to make the IX removable depending on how cold it is and I won't need a separate underquilt, just a sheet of IX to put in or take out.

The sheet of IX like material is 3/32 thick. It's still light weight but a bit more bulky. I made the sheet so I can use it like an underquilt without the sock - it has a 1.1 layer on one side and can use shock cord to attach it to the hammock also.. So I'll have 2 different set ups for different temp ranges.

I know it will be considered too much to haul around, but I do love to try different things, ala diy!

awsome. So the sides are brought around and pulled taught at the top via shock cord? I've got your basic hammock sock, fitted at one end and draw string at the other, but it is a bit cumbersome and i've been looking for better designs...looks like you've given me something to work with. Thanks.

Thanks bluefields181! I also find I can "take up the slack" and make the Ted Sock hug the bottom of my hammock by simply attaching the shock cord lines to my suspension higher up. So I can have a little room to play with when the IX is inserted. Pics will be taken soon.

I love this I had planned on making a winter sock and have been looking ofr a design that I know I could manage. This is it.

I was just thinking too for breakfast in the hammock or lounging you can install those new dutch quilt clips on the edge of your hammock to hold the sides down.

Question - did you use shock cord or something else to hold up the canvas? I ask only because I had to really tighten the shock cord so it wouldn't droop down a few inches.
Yes, I'm using 3/32 shock cord, but mine only has entry from one side and only shock cord on one side too.
    Good luck,

Yes, mine has only entry on one side also for use on the Blackbird.

Well, on to plan "D" as A,B,C didn't work out as I thought. I had to scrap the pocket to put the IX like material in. It slides around too much. So onto using shock cord and making it a separate underquilt.

As you can see from the pics I just took, the sock still needs some alterations to fit properly. I tend to not measure things very well (ruler/tape measure challenged), so I make a small change and try again.

For a simple project I seem to be making more out of it than I should. Any how, as a sock, the TED method works wonderfully - I suppose I could just sew the IX directly to the sock.

Aw well, more experimenting in my future.

OldDog made a TED sock where the top half is bugnet and the bottom half is IX covered with nylon. We are in Florida where a full sock is rarely needed but bug protection is always needed. He really hit the best of both worlds for winter hanging in Florida!
