Help me decide who, not what! TQ Edition

I have no experience with WL.

I bought an HG 40* Burrow used.

The build and quality are fantastic. It is a great quilt, yet it did not work for me.

I like a wider quilt with a deeper footbox because I cocoon, sleep fetal and move around all night.

Another option to check out is Enlightened Equipment. The Revelation X is made with 30d material and the Revelation is made with 20d (more expensive). I plan on getting a winter top quilt from Tim once I unload some gear.

I own several burrows and love them all. Find the quality and craftsmanship to be top notch. I as well sleep with my right foot resting on my left knee and find the standard burrow to provide enough coverage for me. However their have been forum members who have customized their burrow and have gotten a wider and deeper foot box as well as some who have increased the shoulder width of the burrow as well. So if it were me I would get a custom burrow from Hammock Gear. You can specify how deep and wide you would like the foot box as well as the shoulder width.

Stang, what all did you have on tho, when your 40* tq took you so low? as i made mention, i dont sleep in much at all so layering a lot is mostly out of the question. i usually put out a lot of heat when i sleep, and in my bedroom i prefer it to be icy cold (actually, the a/c is on in my room right now.) so i guess thats a good thing for this? i think the main question was: if the TQ needed to be the same relative temp rating as the UQ

I wear shorts and a T-shirt when I sleep most of the time; never any more than a baselayer. My head was covered with a fleece helmet liner, and I had thicker wool socks on. Otherwise, I'm a very hot sleeper as well.

My winter UQ has 16oz of down in it, and it wraps around me darn near completely. In summer, I use a 3/4 length 40 degree Phoenix from HG.

I use a Marmot Wind River 40 degree bag as a TQ year round.

In your case, you may be better off using a thicker TQ if you don't want to layer. You can always vent it if it gets too warm.

Most TQs are tapered. If you had one that was rectangular with a regular cinched end, it would give you more room in the leg area. You could even have one that was widest in the middle instead of at the head end. Just a thought.

Also you tend to have more flexibility with a lower rated UQ than TQ.

mr man, so youre saying that a LOWER temp UQ would do me better as far as versatility goes? my thing is since i dont want to layer and can only score one, i figured go for the lowest temps i can afford. 0* is way too much.

That's what I'm saying. If 0* is too much, go for the 20*. You can always adjust your TQ for the conditions. In warm weather I will use my 20* UQ since it's the only one I have right now, and just a thermal shirt for TQ. Works for me.
