Looking for advice on securing the tarp corners to stakes

Hey everyone,

I have been hammocking for several years now and have pretty much used the same set up since I started. Let me start off by saying that I am mainly hanging on motorcycle trips and a couple of family outings per year. Given that I am not overly concerned with weight but I am concerned about bulk. I've been using the Jacks R Better self tensioning lines and have them connected to some ground hawg stakes with a figure 9 binder. That being said I would like to get away from carrying all of the figure 9's if possible in order to slim down my gear. I've also been using the figure 9's for tarp ridge lines but I'm going to a whoopie slings dutch set up.....so I'm already reducing the size of my gear.

Just looking for options on what I can do. I'ld like to stay with the JRB self tensioning lines but where it meets the stake I was hoping for some suggestions. Pics would also be great if possible. I can't hardly tie my shoes let alone some of the knots that you guys come up with.

+1 on this method as well. I have mine pretty much set up as Shane shows in one of his older threads - The Line-Lok tied with a loop of shock cord larksheaded to the tarp.

wow!!!! Thanks for all of the info. I've got some line here and I'll play with trying the various set ups suggested. Bama I'm looking forward to next weekend. I can't wait to get back in my Blackbird......it's been WAY too long.

Lee:
Look up animated knots and look for a clove hitch. It easy to tie and will not pull loose from itself. If you have a hard time with it or can't find it I will show it to you next weekend at the Mid TN hang.

Here is my idea slash 2 cents use shock cord and that stake knot that will keep it tenchoned and be easy to do

Or use a taut-line hitch. It will allow you to tie the knot and then tighten you tensioners like you do with the figure-9s.

I use UCRs for my tarp tieouts.

They are fun to make, no knots, do not tangle, lightweight and super easy to adjust.

I shouldn't assume that everyone knows what UCR means or how to locate instructions on how to make them.

UCR covered in video between 1:00 - 3:50 and between 5:25 - 6:00 minutes.

UCRs work fine as tarp tieouts because they are kept under tension (I use bungee cords loops at the tarp corners and tie my strings to them.)

By the way, braided Mason's twine from Home Depot works great as UCRs.
