When I'm winter camping, I'm hauling 80 to 100 lbs. on a toboggan while snowshoeing. The trips are usually 3 nights/4 days. This will be my first winter using a hammock. I don't see much weight loss with a hammock/tarp and all the extra gear to stay warm. My canvas tent is pretty light at about 20 lbs. I still intend to use my wood stove. This winter, I've been using the titanium wood stove I got from Fourdog. Man, I love that stove!
11 pounds before food and water for the winter....and I can get to about -10*F with that set up....a few more pounds and I can get down to a good -30*F but I am fortunate enough where I hike in my area it doesn't get down past 10 to 15*F most of the time.
Its not like Mina-sow-da, don't ya know.
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.
Just starting out again driven by the need to head out both solo and with a family of four, so I'm heavy.
Pack - 6lb,7oz
Sleeping Bag - 5lb, 13oz
HH ED/Hex Fly - 3lb,12oz
Almost 16lbs with just that gear. Add 13.9oz for the radiant pad, and then 4-10lbs for all of the other assorted gear.
Base weight (before food/water) for winter -22*F weekend earlier this month was 18.75lbs.
Biggest weights:
Claytor Hammock 31oz
TNF Solar Flare 66oz
Pinnacle Pack 33oz
JRB 10x11 tarp 19oz
CCF pads total 34oz
20* trip puts me at about 10lbs before food/water. Don't really plan on doing many more trips below 20* unless I'm making it a point to challenge myself.
