That was an impressive fire! The kind that you need a welding helmet and a asbestos suit to cook on.

Wish I could have been there but... SkyPainter and I did a reverse commute this weekend. I drove to Boston at 5:30 Saturday morning while he was driving from Boston! Maybe next year. Glad everyone had a good time. Thanks for the reports & pics.

No Suby for me. That was Dylan, so you'll also need to change the caption on pic #26. Of course if Dylan wants to give me his sweet Cuben tarp...

It's back up and running from what I hear. It was still there when I left, and I was the last to drive out.

Well, finally made it home again from the New Jersey hang - what a BLAST! I will DEFINITELY be putting this hang on the calendar for next year, and, hopefully, get my timing a bit better.

Planned to drive down to Jersey From Mass on Friday, but lost that day dealing with the Admissions and Financial Aid Depts for my youngest, who was supposed to be starting on Monday. Finally got that sorted-out for the time being. Had to drop up to New Hampshire the next morning, and turned around and drove down at 4:00 AM. No traffic, made good time.

Landed in the Pine Barrens around 10:30 or so, and ran out of paved road on Carranza, so just kept driving. Nothing was marked. Luckily, after a couple of miles, I ran into Kayak Karl coming the other way, turned around, and followed him to Batona Camp. Many people were there already. GREAT site for hammocks - trees all over the place spaced nicely.

I got set-up (LOVE my new Camo Superfly Tarp!) and went over to meet some of the folks. Found the Jersey Bears nearby, and had a nice reunion with them! There was a fire stack in the fire ring that looked like it would burn down the entire forest - but once lighted, it was awesome, and produced heat for the chilly night ahead.

There were some pop-up tents, tables, grills, smokers, stoves galore, and enough food being prepared to feed a small army! The FOOD at this hang is simply outrageous! Sitting in the woods with friends, eating things like stuffed Venison Tenderloins wrapped in bacon, Bacon Bomb Meatloaf wrapped in bacon, Rice Cripsy with bacon squares, Cornbread and bacon, and many other dishes made this a very memorable hang!

A large raffle was held, sand I actually won a nice EDC folding knife from Frost Cutlery! The evening had the temps dropping, and it got down to about 22* that night. I awoke at 27* around 7:30 AM, but my sleep system worked very well - roasty toasty in My Warbonnet, with some added insulation besides my three-season UQ. I will be ordering some real winter insulation soon, though.

Met many new people, had some great conversations, and was once again convinced that outdoors folk are the best around! Much laughter, great food, many new rigs to see, and a great time! I actually got to see/try finally a Bear Mountain Bridge hammock from the Jacks.....sweeet! May have to consider one of those, now, too! (Gear junkie).

Folks were all leaving the next day, but I still had some time off, so I was deciding between getting a single permit for another day or two, or heading out. Since I would be the only one left, I packed-up and headed out to do some Salmon fishing in upstate New York, but as fate would have it, a call from home sent me back there.

This is an amazing hang, a great area, (once you find it!) and a definite on my dance card, for sure! It was great meeting all who attended, seeing old friends again, and I can still taste the Venison, Bacon Bomb, and Tilapia with bacon!

I have vids and pics to upload, and will try to get them up today...some never came out because my flash was off (D'Oh!) but some did.

If you can make this hang in any possible way next year- do it! You will not regret it, no matter how long the drive! (7+ hours for me, and would do it again in a heartbeat!)

    Hang on -
