    Couple of loop suggestions

    Hey guys and gals.

I have an opportunity to slip away this weekend and I am looking for an out and back or loop hike. I am located in Greenville SC and the closer the better.
Do you guys have any suggestions for Pisgah or Doupont? I am open to pretty much anything as long as I can get my hands on a map.

I am also nervous because I haven't finished my UQ so I am going to have to use a ccf in combination with a big agnes air pad. I have never done this in the cold that I may encounter. I would hate to go to the ground

    Any ideas?

Check the Wilson Creek Wilderness Area in Pisgah. Some great loops to be had there.

I will hit up REI tomorrow and look at some maps.

I am finding the Hot Springs to Rich Mountain loop intriguing. Does anyone have any experience with this area?

Don't know of any loop trails but Sumter national forest up around the chatooga river has some really nice out and back trails with some great hanging spots. Looks like the lows up there are only in the 40's this weekend so you shouldn't have any warmth issues with your setup. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I didn't think about that area.
I have mountain biked there a few times.

Ended up deciding to go to Pisgah.
Shining Creek Gap to Old Butt Knob (3.4 m) - LEFT on Art Leob Trail (2 m) - LEFT on Greasy Cove, the map labels it as this but I am also seeing it called Grassy Cove (3.2 m) - Continue on Big East Fork trail to the car (3.4 m)
I will probably camp on the Art Leob Trail but may push on to Greasy Cove depending on terrain and campsites.

I am just hoping it doesn't rain on me to bad.

It does look like rain. Have fun and be sure to take some pics for us!

Yeah, it has me nervous. I am sitting here staring at the map wondering if I should call it off.

You could always drive up there to the trailhead and play it by ear. Good luck with your decision either way. No pressure from here as it's completely up to you. That's part of the freedom I love about hiking.
