DIY Underquilt Question

Ok so I have spent a lot of time researching HF since I found the site and now I'm kind of stuck so hopefully y'all can help. I am wanting to make a full length underquilt that is good for about 25 degrees F.

FYI I am 5'5" 120lbs

I am using Mad777's UQ calculator as reference.
My dimensions are 70" long, 43" wide, and 2.5" baffle height (i believe)

I plan on using 850 fill power down with 8 baffles and 15% overstuff.
Total=11oz.

I think I want to get 3" of loft.

My question is will the 2.5" baffles get me 3" of loft with the down I am using?
also, will this reach my goal of around 25 degrees F?

i just did the math and you should be good with the amount of down you want to use
as for loft there is no true way to calculate total loft....loft is a byproduct of down you also will want to do a differential cut in your UQ but with a baffle heigh of 2.5 you should get down to 25F easy ... rule of thumb 2" baffles 3 season (around 30F) 3" for winter but it's not set in stone but it's a good guide to start with
as long as you have the proper amount of down to fill the airspace you will be fine and should get something around 2.5-3" of loft
8 Chambers should be fine as well i take it your going with 5" wide chambers...
same size i use and they work out nice ...

So I've gotten everything cut, and the baffles sewed onto the inside fabric. I have marked where I will sew the baffles to the outside fabrics and put in the darts to compensate for the 12.5" difference in the width of the fabrics.

My question is: According to the spreadsheet the length of the outer fabric is 5" longer than the inner fabric. I'm not sure why this is and how I am to get them to match up. Darts??

The extra length accounts for only the outside layer wrapping up at the ends to meet the inner layer at the hammock. This allow the inner layer and end channel shockcords to lay firm against the hammock bottom to make a good seal. Essentially, this is the full baffle height at the ends.

Yes, darts are the way to go. You can really add them anywhere along the length of the quilt. I add mine near the head and foot end, but anywhere will work.

Ok, so if i center the inside fabric on the outside fabric I have 2.75 in on each side. (See picture)

I should put in say four 1.375 in darts on each side??

Then the length will match up?

Some of the extra width on the outside piece is to form the outer baffles. Think about it like this, you have baffles that you sewed to the inside that allows the inner and outer fabric to be separated by 2.5". You need something similar on the outer edge to join the inside and outside fabric, otherwise your outermost tubes would be a triangle. If your quilt was turned up sideways like this |], where the | is your inner fabric and the ] is your outer fabric, you can see where the extra width goes.

Actually, you DON'T want to make that up. Just leave it so it can close off the ends.
When closing the ends, simply see one dart in each of the four corners.

BTW, my outside fabrics is not only longer on each end, but also on each side, by an amount equal to the baffle height or quilt thickness.
