    Tarp Question...

First let me begin by saying i am new to the site and so far i am very impressed with all the helpful information i have found here, so keep up the good work.

I have a ENO hammock and have been reading about them here and there noticing that if i were to get a strong rain storm i might be screwed. That being said i was curious as to anyones input for a good tarp for my hammock. I have been leaning towards the MacCat but making one myself isnt completely out of the question.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Welcome to the site. Glad you found us.
Do you have the Eno tarp? I've heard it is lacking in coverage. Several good tarps you could choose from. The MacCat Deluxe would work well. Check out Jeffs site. He's a member here and he has a great site. Under the "Staying Dry" section you will find directions on how to make a Black Cat tarp.

I saw the ENO tarp on a double hammock this past weekend. It is a really sharp looking tarp, but I was trying to figure out how I would stay dry. It seems barely longer than the hammock with very large cat cuts. It almost seemd like figuring out how to tie the cuts under the hammock to serve as a bivy would be needed to stay dry. I would use a different tarp if it was up to me.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Indeed. Their FastFly is a 10.5' x 10.5' diamond shaped tarp, and their ProFly is a 12' x 9.5' Hex (with what appear to be cat cut edges).

The material for both is listed as poly-coated ripstop instead of silnylon, though, so they are slightly heavier than comparable silnylon tarps. All things considered, either of those two should make a perfectly serviceable tarp, especially the hex.

I like supporting smaller gear makers where possible, so I think one of the MacCat models is still preferable but it's good to have options.

Thanks angrysparrow and tomsayer, i had no idea about the pro fly it looks much dryer than the other two but still seems a bit short on the sides. I probably need to see all my options in person. I just dont want to have to worry about getting wet, considering this year will be my first year sleeping in my hammock.
