    n. ga hang by a small lake soon?

i have a kayak for fishing but I haven't used it in probably close to 2 years now. I've been thinking it would be cool to camp near some small lake in n. ga soon and do some fishinig and drink some beer. Probably some hiking too so I can keep my dog calm.

My schedule for the next few weekends is pretty much wide open, so if anyone is up for this let me know

This would be car camping so we can eat well and have plenty of cold beer. Looking to avoid a state park and crowds, so NF land would probably be best, WMA maybe. I might try to kill a turkey while I'm out there too.

Tons of places to go in GA, especially north GA. Fort Yargo S.P., Oconee Nat'l Forest by Greensboro and Red Top Mt. S.P. come to mind, I'd check the hunting regs on turkeys though. Hit google maps and look for areas not gummed up by farmland and highways.

EDIT: Carter's Lake? (SW of Ellijay)

My grandparents lived in Hartwell, right on the lake. It is beautiful country up there.

ft yargo is about the size of lake im looking for but would like to avoid a state park. but its an option

would like to avoid a lot of crowds, and a lot of other boats especially large ones. I spend enough time out on Lanier, would like something somewhat secluded.

carters lake I would do -- a bit bigger than what I was looking for but I've never been and hear the fishing is good.

    Me too. BIG lake.

Take a look at Lake Yonah. It's a lot smaller. Mostly private property around it but I think there is a very unfrequently used camp site up on the northern end (the head of the lake).

Rabun Beach is another good one. USFS.
