Hello from MD

Hi all! I'm new to the hammock thing, but not to camping. I've been camping and backpacking since I joined Boy Scouts when I was 11. I've seen a few people using hammocks on trips before, but I never thought much about them. I started hearing about them more while cruising around over at Bushcraft USA and found this site from there. The idea and the amount of people that love it piqued my interest and I decided to give it a try...I figure, if its not for me, I can sell the gear and be no worse off.

Being that I appreciate quality equipment and I'm a bit of a gear ***** (ok, maybe a major one, but at least I admit it), I did some research and reading and decided to jump right in. I ended up with a Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7DL that showed up a week or so ago, and a crows nest underquilt on order from hammock gear. I'm looking forward to hopefully giving them a try in the next month or two...I need to plan a trip. In the mean time, I'll have to figure out a way to rig it up in the back yard to give it a try. Hopefully I enjoy it as much as you all do.

Welcome to the Family. I too have a 1.7 Dbl WBBB. The folks around these parts are pretty friendly and helpful. Have a question, just ask. No trees in my back yard so I bought a frame to hang at home. Not ideal but it works. Happy Hanging.

Welcome to the forum from another MD'er. You got yourself off to a pretty nice start with a WBBB and a Crows nest both great pieces of gear. And if your looking for a great learning experience and a chance to hang out with some great people, try and make it to the Spring MAHA coming up in a few months. Welcome from the Jersey Shore. You sure hit the ground running. There's a group hang not far from you on 2/25-2/26 in PA, which doesn't look far from you. Maybe I'll see ya there.
