self tensioning lines and snow/ heavy rains?

Im sure self tensioning lines are quick and easy, but how do they hold up in snow/ in a storm?

They can help in high wind situations, stakes are less likey to be pulled loose from soft ground when a tensioner is used.

A snow load can max out most any tensioner pretty quickly but I've never had one fail. Also a nice tight CRL does achieve some tensioning. My tensioners are attached with hooks that fail at about 35lbs and I've yet to have one break. To give you some idea for comparison, a std. concrete block is around 42lbs.

I can't attest to snow but I can talk about wind and rain. My tensioners, connected right at the tarp and then to the 4 main guylines, have held up in some extreamly windy conditions and horrible rain storms. My thoughts on snow would be to have a good steep pitch on your tarp so that most of the snow (and it's accumulating weight) would slide off.
