    GA AT in April

    Hey Everyone,
I'm finally going to have all of my hammock gear bought soon and I'm trying to get a small trip going for my first hang since my husband can't get off work to go with me and I don't want to go alone. I'm planning on a 3.5 day hike on the AT, Springer Mountain to Neels Gap The weekend of April 14-15th. The dates depend on if more people can go Friday-Monday or Thursday-Sunday. Fri-Mon is easier for me transportation-wise but I'm flexible. Also there are so many access points that whoever wants can meet up at any time!

This will also be my first section of the AT as well as my first hang so I'm taking it easy with 10 miles or less per day. I've also planned to end at Mountain Crossings at Neels Gap for a few reasons, one being I've been there and am familiar with the driving in the area and how to get home, two because if we get done early enough, dinner in Helen always rocks, and three because deep down somewhere I'm a girl and love shopping!

I'm looking forward to having a few new friends come and share my first hang with me!

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.

Sounds like a great idea. I'm completely new to backpacking though, so I will have to see if I can get myself into decent enough shape to keep up with you guys!

Str1der, you and I may be hiking together, slow and steady. That is if I can make it. Work may interfer. I hate when that happens, but I need the work to support this addiction.

Slow and steady may not win the race, bu it at least gets you out on the trail when the alternative was passing on the trip altogether! I'm in the same boat as you regarding work as well. I'm an engineer, so I can always have my weekends seized at a moment's notice if there's a problem on the line. Missed the SC Updsate last fall for exactly that reason .

Extremely interested in this trip. Have already been trying to talk a couple of friends into a section hike this spring because eventually I would like to work up to a thru (bucket list thing)
