I'm looking at making a gear hammock kind of like the MMC gearbox what would be the best fabric to use for this? (i was thinking of having a flap that folds over similar to the mmc gear box with some mods to it.

Either Silnylon or PU coated nylon would make it waterproof.

does anyone know where i can find a pattern?
the pattern is simple- (I think!) take a rectangle of fabric. Gather the two ends, secure some how (channel, whipped, zip tie, knot (not recommended)) and yay! you have a gear hammock, just add suspension.
Make it as big as you need it!
my hammock gear weights total: 2430g (~86oz)
Winter: total 2521 (~89oz)
