    SRL too tight

So here is my problem and the accompanying information for all you trouble shooters out there.

I have put an ASRL on my DIY hammock and I have played with it a few times, trying to adjust everything I can think of, trying to get it to where I can get roughly a 90* bend out of the RL when I am in it. Much to no avail.

My hammock is shorter than most and when I made my ASRL I tried to make sure that I could adjust it from roughly 75-85% of the total length of the hammock. I will have to go back and measure to see how well I actually accomplished this.

I have tried to get my hammock suspension hung at about 30* and nothing has yeilded much results at all so far. Any suggestions?

Each hammock is a bit different. But if your SRL is tight enough to play bass in a funk band then try raising your tree huggers further and go for closer to a 35*-40* angle or perhaps more. Far apart trees and short hammocks have this problem. The 30* angle is typically for a 10ft (body) hammock and trees 12 - 15 feet apart.

My hammock is 10.5 feet long but my "trees" are nearly 18ft apart and I have to place my tree straps nearly as high as I can reach to keep the SRL from being too tight and keep my butt off the ground. Keep fiddling with it and I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.

Try this. Take off the ARL, and then try it out adjusting the suspension until you are comfortable and like how everything feels. Once you got everything dialed in, put the ARL on and get in and out tightening after each time until it is taut but loose enough to flex while your in it. If you leave the ARL at that length, then as long as you set up your hammock every time to the point where the ARL feels the same then you should be good to go.

I laughed for a good long while when I read that.

I'd say try measuring your ridgeline adjustability again. It is surprisingly easy to get the wrong length if you are splicing. If your angle of hang and everything else seems right, then that may be your weak link.
