I use a Lost Ranger 15F bag during the non winter months and love it. I'm slowly thinking of trying the top quilt idea but not willing to pull the money trigger yet.

I dont use the pad in the W.B. as my bottom quilt works just fine, however if I use my Eureka Chrysalis I will use the pad as the eureka lets me sleep flat and on my side if I want to.

I use a BA Encampment and thermarest pad in the winter. Spring and fall I have a North Face Dolomite. Both bags work well for me I don't use the pad with the NF bag.

I've used my Big Agnes Insulated Air Core and my BA Encampment with the air core partially inflated many times - only to the mid 40's , then it's time for the underquilt for anything colder.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

I have used my BA bags with underquilts from Arrowhead last year,,and was totally toast..at 30 degrees and alittle lower,,now have quilts both TQ and UQ and will never go back to pads or the ground unless totally above the tree lines.

Like others, I started with a BA Horse Thief and then moved to a Lost Ranger for colder weather. The issues with restriction and movement pushed me to UQ's, but I continued to use the Horse Thief until I bought my first TQ. I keep both of them however, just in case I would ever have a reason (unlikely) that I would ever sleep on the ground again.

BA makes great gear, if they made a TQ I would probably buy one.

    Thanks all.

I had a sneaky suspicion that the BA would be a good route. To assume never needing/wanting to go to ground is just foolish IMNSHO.

I just wanted to see if anyone had used that particular brand.

I'm not decided on BA, I may do a diy thingy based on the idea.

I love hammocks, but I will not play the part of a non thinking fanboy, and I don't have more money than sense, as many unnamed hammock lovers seem to have.
