    How to Un-Whoopie?

I just got a hammock second hand that has whoopies but I want to undo the looped part so that it is just a straight length of rope. I did this on my first hammock that came the same way because I prefer to use a truckers hitch with a descending ring as I find this easier to adjust once the hammock is up. My first set of whoopies pulled out quite easily but this new set has locked up in a short section and I can't seem to get it to free up. Any help on getting these free would be greatly appreciated.

The short end might be back spliced/burried to keep it from pulling back through the constrictor. You should be able to undo the back bury if you're patient.

What does the "tail" end look like? It is usually doubled inside itself for an inch or two to keep it from pulling through.

It is doubled on the end. I pulled it through its self so that the loop got smaller. This worked on the last one but not this one. One of them is stuck with about a half inch to go and the other is stuck with about 6 inches.

Say what? What loop got smaller?

The way to undo a whoopie is to get rid of the backsplice, I'd just cut it off but I guess you could undo it. Then the free end should slide right through the constrictor with no fuss. You may compress or squeeze the bury constrictor lengthwise to make it release the inner line.

If I understand correctly, the loose ends had an eye splice that you pulled on into the bury creating a back spliced end. Then you tried to pull this through the constrictor getting it stuck.

If this is what happened, you're pretty much screwed unless you can finish pulling it out.

Or are you trying to pull the large adjustable loop of the whoopie down through the constrictor until it comes out and leaves an inverted area in the rope?

Yeah I'm screwed! I finally had to cut out the constricted area(I shouldn't try to do this stuff when I'm hung over) I turned the sling around and reversed it on the harness so that I could run the truckers hitch and ring

It's all good after a quick test hang. Thanks for the help guys
