    Very descriptive briefing.
That wind is a warmth bandit for sure. I think your right....lower pitch and doors would truly have helped. Weathershield as well.

I used my OMW tarp this weekend for a Hike'n'Hang. High winds both nights, winter weather advisory saturday night, due to fast bone chilling winds. Pitched my OMW tarp about 3 or 4 inches from the ground, never had an issue with my stakes (don't use tensioners) and my pole mod performed flawlessly. If you can keep the wind off of you, those UQ's will handle what breeze you do get easily. Doors are definitely key as well. I was able to close the ones facing the wind and leave one door open on the opposite end to vent.

If you do get a chance to use a sock with your BMJ I'd like to read a review of your thoughts and reflections. Might be a nice piece of kit for the tweener seasons if you get surprised by weather.

Have to research and decide on a weather shield or full sock.

I haven't ever used a weather shield but I have used a sock w/ a layer of IX and I am a true believer in the sock now. As soon as funds are allocated I will be making one. I know condensation is easily an issue with the sock but from what I have read and experienced I think it can be solved fairly easily. See if someone around you has a sock you can try before you dive in

    Weight an issue?

I can tell you my face did get bone chilling cold a couple times when the wind would sneek in, never enough to feel it under but dang if it would't bite your face. I may be in the market for some kind of winter weather shield mod... Good post, thanks. Gettin' the brain juices mixin'

My old DIY weathershield helps a ton and I like being open on top. Part of what I like about tarps and hammocks.....seeing the woods. It weighs 7 ounces.

I will probably get a basic weathershield and take it from there as I also like to hang in place with good views.
