Great deal on 60" wide ACU Nylon - Arizona

Just thought I'd post a heads up on a great deal for some material for hammocks, sacks etc...

Its 2oz yard ACU Pattern nylon. Its not Ripstop, but is quite strong. I just made a quick 10.5x5 hammock out of some and its nice. Held my big ol body w/o so much as a sound or inkling of giving up the ghost.

SAS fabrics on 19th Ave in Phoenix has it in rolls (5 big rolls last weekend) 60" wide for $2.99/yd. That is an OK deal in itself, but browsing the store they have a box up front with the same material in 12yd cuts for a $1/yd! I grabbed 2 cuts for about 21+ yards, figure at that price I can futz around with it. They probably had 10-15 more hanks like it in the box still.

They also have some white Ripstop that is very thin, and very light weight. on a roll that is water stained slightly on the top layers. Its $2.99/yd as well. I might go back and buy a few yards of that to play around with. It seemed to be closer to 1oz/yd stuff. much lighter than stuff from Joann's. You can see through it almost.

I know there are a few of us out here in the valley of the sun, so if you want some cheap deals check them out.

    I'm jealous!

I'm always seeing these posts about giant fabric outlet stores with amazing prices on nylon. All I got is a crappy Jo Ann's. I'd have to drive several hours and cross a state line to visit a store like this.

one I picked up (off the top of the box) was 9+ yards, and the other I grabbed that was neatly folded like the rest under it was 12 (and a bit)yards. Each bundle under it felt to be the same weight/size.. so I'd guess they are in 12 yard or so hanks yes. Someone probably had bought 3 yards off the top one I picked up...

Do you remember the colors of the lightweight ripstop? I'm a skinny, so lightweight nylon would work for me in a hammock. I'm way down in Gilbert, but may be able to swing by that place next month when I'm in the area.

    It was white.

They may or may not have it when you go. They are a bulk buy type place. They buy overstock or in bulk of things then sell it. Its not like a regular fabric shop where you can rely on them having certain stuff. Once they sell out of stuff they pretty much don't get that same thing again.

Crud. Ripstop for $1/yard is my kind of deal.

    Very nice!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."
