I can't wait to see pics of this thing. Plus think of how much fun it would be to climb and swing on the thing. Brings out my inner child.

This is a cool idea. Having said that how dangerous would it be for everyone to be hanging in a large framed network of metal during a lightning storm?

Dangerous to the ears maybe, but since the hammock suspension is not conductive, the current from a strike would pass through the frame to the ground without actually zapping any of the hangers.

I'd say it would be fine, but what would I know? I've been struck by lightning, twice, so maybe you shouldn't take advice from me!
It's bad luck to be superstitious.

    I missed this thread!?

I've been laying awake the past few nights trying to figure out the best way to build a straw-walled house with a hammock-friendly bedroom. This thread is perfect! A modular hobbit-house with a domed frame for the bedroom still insulated with straw. This may have been the last major piece of the puzzle. Excellent idea Bluenose Climbers!

I've always wanted a hay bale or rammed earth or car tire home, but add a dome frame hanging room, and you reach the pinnacle of awesomeness!

If (or when) you do this, please post pics!
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

If you Google "playground dome" you will find lots of relatively inexpensive products that could work for testing this idea... plus more information on building a larger structure.

If you search Amazon for "lifetime dome climber" you will find the first one on the list has 65 reviews. They are 5' tall and 10' diameter.

DomeClimber.com has one that is 6' tall and 15' diameter for $269.

I've seen 8' diameter domes for sale in Costco as kid's climbers. Put one on a four foot knee wall, and you have a nice little hut.

An HFer and I spoke about this about a year ago... I think he has a couple of them, but I don't know if they are set up for hanging.

I had one of those when I was a kid. My brothers and I where climbers and we had a ball on the thing for years until it rusted out. I saw a huge one not to long ago when i passed a school playground.
