I am looking to do this same thing to my old 1.5"ID stand I have had foe a while. I am hesitant to go with a .065 thick EMT conduit or similar due to overall strength. Sounds like some have had plenty of success though, and I doubt the metal I have now on mine is any thicker.

Do those of you that used the conduit still like the setup? Is it preferred to do a vertical pipe vs the 90*bend?

    Thanks.

I had a 2" OD pipe stand at one time
went to lowes and purchased a 60degree angle and a 1' pipe and a 2' pipe for each end.
after connecting the three pieces, the 1' pipe slipped down into the pipestand's angled end and the 2' pipe was rotated to stand up vertical. Fortunately, with this particular stand the pipes i purchased fit inside the stand's pipe just fine.

PS: Now I use the JRB, inverted "T" style pipe stand.

Here is what I have done so far. I happened to have a contractor friend that had some thicker gauge fence post. One end was tapered and a perfect fit into my existing pipes. I just cut it and had a muffler shop do a bend about 8 inches up.

I'm not as keen in having a bend like that, but based on the hang calculator I will be hanging just a bit above the bend anyways, so not as much force on the bend. I bought some of the 1.5" conduit couplers (were a bit big on my pipe but worked ok until I weld it). I'll try it This weekend.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my Vario stand. https://www.byerofmaine.com/the-vari...cok-stand.html
They make a stand extender to widen the stand at $19.95. https://www.byerofmaine.com/vario-ha...-extender.html
I'm thinking of buying two and replacing the shorter end arms with these tubes. Just an idea...
