    SRL - Some clarification please

    Hi guys

I understand that a SRL sets the maximum distance between both ends of the hammock to give a consistent hang each time, but does the tension in the RL affect how comfortable the hammock feels. For example, if it was set up with the right length RL with a little tension in the line and the hammock felt comfortable, would the comfort factor change if the tree straps were lowered and more tension put through the RL? I understand that too much tension in the RL makes it part of the suspension, but this is the main advantage for me, as it means I can worry less about getting a 30* angle and just enjoy a more consistent hang.

    Thanks in advance.

The jury is out on that, but anecdotal evidence from several people would suggest that SRL tightness may actually contribute to the lay.
Personally, I believe it's just things getting pulled from different directions, and not things actually stretching or whatever.

Assuming that you are using a non-stretchy material like dyneema or spectra, the length of the SRL is fixed and therefore no change occurs to the hammock as you tension the SRL.
That is, until the line breaks.

U can use your RL to find your sweet spot in hanging in the hammock,,and the RL will give you the same lay every time you hang it. Some like their hammock with more slack in it,,some like it with less. And the RL will allow you to hang anything off of it above you as well.

Thanks for the replies. I cant see how tension in the RL should affect the lay, but I'm usually wrong!

Do many people change the std length BlackBird RL or does Brandon's 100in work well for most? I have a whoopsieslings ASRL that I could try if it's worth it. I'd just like to say that it feels comfortable straight out of the box but I still wonder if I could tweak it a little.

    Thanks
