They are shorter. What I do is reverse the whoopiesling so the adjustable end is closer to the hammock. This gives a waterbreak under your tarp, but it also makes it so you can use your whoopiesling to take up the space your hugger doesn't cover. As long as the hugger is on the back side of the tree you should be good. I can make longer huggers but this really saves weight and bulk.

I use a small continuous loop of amsteel larksheaded onto my hammock (or run through my channel end hammocks). Then a Dutch biner, which will now be replaced by my brand new Dutch whoopie hooks. The whoopie hooks will be threaded onto the fixed end of my whoopie slings. The adjustable end of the whoopies are sewn into the loop on the end of my tree straps. On the other end of my tree straps are loops with Dutch clips. Located along the length of the straps are my brand new Dutch buckles. Of course my tarp is held up with Dutch hooks.

As a matter of fact, the only thing I'm missing in my setup is a Dutch titanium hammock!!

Dutch thanks for the reply. The whoopie hook setup price is for a pair of each item, right? The site doesn't say

I'll be testing my hooks next weekend at the hang. The scary part will be hanging with my homemade dynaglide whoopies and locked brummels.

Yeah their pretty fantastic. Makes set up super fast super easy. Also never have to worry about my tree hungers being too short. Can't wait to see what Dutch comes up with next
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I've done a larks head of my UCRs to my tree straps, and the hook is now in the loop I use to larks head the UCR to the hammock body with. On the head end I've done a loop of Dynaglide that the hook and the ridge-line biner attach to. And on the foot end I've done a section of Dynaglide with spliced eyes on both ends. It works VERY nice.

What benefit are you getting from a detachable ridgeline?

At this point not much since I've changed out much of what use to go on it when it detached. About the only thing now is the ability to have it out of the way when I am using it as a camp chair.

I had a detachable ridgeline for a while, but abandoned it because I never used it that way. I don't mind the ridgeline in front of my forehead when sitting in chair mode.

I do re-use the little ti-ridgeline-biner to hang my pack though. I didn't like putting it on the ground, so I've gotten in the habit of hanging my pack from the ridgeline of the hammock and just letting it dangle at about knee level, but opposite of the asym angle my feet are on. It's always reachable, and under the tarp and dry that way.
