Meramec State Park Wilderness Trail Backpacking Trip

My wife and I just got back from an overnight on the Wilderness Trail in Meramec State Park, just outside of Sullivan, MO. It was our first time on the trail and I thought it was very nice. It's a 10 mile trail with multiple rustic camping areas along the way. There's plenty of interest as the trail changes from rocky to smooth pine needle-covered, and everything in between; with multiple creek bed crossings, caves, and some scenic views of the Meramec river along the way.
We camped at about the 5-mile mark. There was plenty of dead fall to have a nice fire all night, and we had the songs of coyotes and owls to listen to. The people were few and far between this time of year.

It was a great weekend! If anyone is interested in hiking or backpacking this trail and wants more info, feel free to ask.

Meramec SP is a nice place! I did the same trail in late summer; I walked through literally hundreds of spider webs. It was beautiful though, you've made me want to go back soon while it's still spider-less. I love how the woods open up to small hill prairies that overlook the river. Good work on getting your wife to go in the cold, too. Mine won't go with me under 40 degrees yet, but I'm working on it.

    Thanks for the report.

Thanks. I hate spiders, so I would not have enjoyed that at all , which is why this is my favorite time of year to go out. This was my wife's first winter trip. She didnt complain much, but said she would rather not go again when it is this cold. We had a low of about 30F.
