Great thread. You got me on the edge of my seat what happens next?

Obviously both systems were/are state of the art for the period. One system obviously led to the other as technology improved and we became more resourceful. They both worked well. Imagine where we'll be 300 years from now and how people then will react to what we have now.

I have slept both ways for many nights each. I still occasionally will go old style, but modern times have their advantages in my book. Great to see both presented fairly and with great imagery!

    Awesome, is right!

I reenacted for many years. The best part of it was thesame thing that's the best part of camping: the camraderie and being outdoors. I have slept in WW2 foxholes wrapped in a shelter half, in muddy WW1 trenches, on wooden benches in Indian Wars barracks, and in open ended canvas dog tent with one wool blanket and gum poncho out on the prairie in November. Each experience was instructive, each gave a deeper appreciation of those who came before, each left me in awe of those who lived like that as a matter of course. And then comes the realization that each of those experiences represented the absoult pinnacle of "camping technology" of thier respective ages, and what might be in store for our grandchildre.
